Job Description: Position Title: Principal Network EngineerLocation: Herndon, VA Status: US Citizen Clearance: None Responsibilities 1.Responsible for the design and development of data communications networks in an Amazon Web Services Cloud environment. 2.Analyzes data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading network devices such as virtual firewalls and virtual routers, and helps provide direction to automate the management and configuration of these devices (occasional need to setup/support physical devices). Some basic ACL's are handled by DevOps teams, so this role is primarily focused on enabling automation and standards, and architecting and supporting the core network infrastructure (e.g. DirectConnect links to private networks). 3.Troubleshooting stateful packet flows and common network protocol operation 4.Plans network layouts and configures systems to meet security and compliance requirements 5.Analyzes network topologies and traffic levels to aid in capacity and architecture recommendations. 6.Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed. 7.May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users. 8.Perform network administration duties for complex network components (e.g. DirectConnect, and virtual firewall configuration management across a large environment). 9.Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. 10.Participates in special projects as required. Education: 1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience. Experience: 1. 8-10 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design. Required Experience: 1.Comfort with Cisco policy based routing. 2.Experience with IPv4 in a moderately complex environment (routing between many different subnets, etc.) 3.Configuring Cisco Routers, including implementation, configuration, and maintenance. 4.Basic knowledge of typical issues encountered when installing physical network equipment at co-located facilities (e.g. correct type of fiber cables, router module additions to routers, etc.) 5.Knowledge of networking communication principles, network standards, and network security practices. Preferred Experience 1.Configuring virtual firewalls/routers and setting up routing across multiple VPC's/accounts in AWS. 2.Expert level knowledge of Cisco policy based routing. 3.Experience with Amazon Web Services. Experience at an "internet scale" company, such as a major e-commerce retailer, national retailer with many locations, telecommunications provider, large organization with 20+ geographic locations, etc
